What are Dermal Fillers and how are they used?
Dermal fillers are natural or synthetic gels that are injected into the skin to volumise, lift and improve the appearance of lines. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is used to provide facial volume and can be used to augment facial features, common areas that are augmented using filler are : Lips, cheeks, Jaw and chin. Filler can also be used to treat lines on areas such as marionette lines (mouth to chin) and nasolabial folds (nose to mouth) giving a more youthful and rejuvenated look.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule found in all skin and soft tissues throughout the body. It attracts and binds water in the skin, providing volume and hydration, but also "cushioning" and supporting collagen.
Dermal fillers are manufactured and cross linked with proteins to produce a clear, sterile gel for injection into the skin providing instant correction.
Hyaluronic acid is a temporary dermal filler and results will vary depending on a variety of reasons such as the type of filler, the area injected and lifestyle choices, the effects can last anywhere from 6 months to 15 months depending on the treatment chosen.
